We have prepared the following guidelines to assist you when applying for a role at the Shire of Augusta Margaret River. Our simple advice is to be prepared, pay attention to detail, and take your time.

Position description

The position description provides you with information about the job, including the purpose of the position, reporting relationships, duties/responsibilities, delegations/accountability and a list of key skills, knowledge and abilities required to perform the role.

This is for your information only.

Important note: You only need to address the requested criteria listed in the application form.

Selection criteria

The selection criteria are those skills, abilities, experience, knowledge and qualifications defined in the Position Description that are important to ensure the functions of the position are effectively and efficiently performed.

The selection criterion is the basis for which a selection panel shortlists and selects which applicants are to be interviewed.

Applicants must respond to all of the key selection criteria required within the application form in order to be considered for the role.

Completing the application form

The application form must be completed, signed and submitted with your application.

Applicants must respond to the criterion requested in the application form. Wherever possible, provide examples of your work performance in your responses to the selection criteria. Do not simply state that you meet the selection criteria.

To address each selection criterion and increase your chances of securing an interview, we suggest you follow the S.A.O (Situation, Action, Outcome) guideline for each criterion:

  • Situation: Describe a situation that you have experienced (relevant to the selection criteria)
  • Action: Write about the action you performed to address this requirement
  • Outcome: Describe the outcome of what you achieved as a result of your action and involvement.

As it is not always possible to interview all applicants, only those who best meet the selection criteria will be shortlisted for an interview. If your application does not address each of the selection criteria required, it is unlikely that you will be shortlisted for an interview.

Documentation to include in your application

The following document will need to be provided as part of your application:

  • Cover letter
  • Application for employment with selection criteria addressed
  • Resume/CV
  • Supporting document, e.g. qualifications, licences, work samples, etc.

If sending in your application online, the recommended formats are .doc, .docx, .pdf, .txt, .rtf or .html, no larger than 2MB.

Submit your application

Make sure you get your application to us by the closing date, as the position will automatically be removed from our website at midnight, and no further applications will be accepted.

Please lodge your application by 3:59 pm on the closing date.

You can submit your application:

  • Via email to [email protected]
  • By post to Human Resources, Shire of Augusta Margaret River, PO Box 61, Margaret River, WA  6285.

Acknowledgement of receipt

When we receive your application, you will receive an acknowledgement email to let you know your application has been received and that we’re considering it.
