About the museum
Established in 1979, the Augusta Historical Museum showcases displays documenting the rich history of Augusta and Districts since European settlement in 1830.
Museum displays include:
- Stories of families from the 1830s
- Artefacts from local shipwrecks
- Artefacts from the MC Davies timber empire (1880s to 1915)
- History of the local environment
- Personal effects of the early settlers
- Details of the 1920s group settlements
- Commemorative china, coins and medals, and garments from various eras
- Church organs
- The story of the 1986 whale rescue event, which made headline news around the world.
Location and opening hours
The museum is located on the corner of Blackwood Avenue and Green Street, Augusta (view Google Map for directions).
Opening hours are 1.00pm - 4.00pm daily.
The museum is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Adults: $7.50
Seniors: $5.50
Children/Students (under 16) are free.
