Rec Centre’s Beach Swimming Program Makes a Splash

Families are splashing with excitement as 148 swim school students hit Gnarabup Beach for the first of this season’s swimming lessons run by the Margaret River Recreation Centre.

Three Margaret River Swim School instructors provided safety and development training for the young participants and ensured the inaugural beach lessons went swimmingly last week. The Rec Centre team were delighted with term enrolments and the impressive turnout to kick-start the program’s first week.

With some adjustments made to the program as lessons move from poolside to seaside, it was fantastic to see so many locals taking the opportunity to learn about water safety in and around the popular local beach. While it’s important to always watch your children in the water, teaching them how to be safe around the ocean is an essential life skill.

The new program aligns with the Royal Life Saving’s ‘Swim and Survive’ program, with elements of the Surf Centre Supplement program to accommodate the new beach location. The Gnarabup Beach Swim Program teaches vital water safety skills and the welcoming and inclusive staff support learning for all abilities.

Suitable for children between the age of five and 15, lessons will run on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week until the 5 April 2023. The high levels of demand mean that enrolments are now closed.
