The Friends of Barrett Street Reserve have been active for over 20 years. The primary aim of the group has been to identify invasive weeds within the karri-marri forest, and to work with the Shire and Nature Conservation Margaret River to help control and eliminate them. Sweet pittosporum (Pittosporum undulatum) and Asparagus scandens have been the biggest problem, but there are many more to tackle.
The Friends of Barrett Street Reserve have also been involved in broader issues including fire management, illegal track development and water erosion.
An important part of their work has been to be the eyes on and a voice for the reserve.
The groups hosts rehabilitation planting events and has been involved with busy bees with visiting groups of students from Perth schools and universities.
