Closure of Turner Street Jetty

Turner Street Jetty in Augusta closure

Due to the age and structural deterioration, we are disappointed to have had to close the Turner Street Jetty for the foreseeable future.

This was a decision made by our Leadership team, based on structural engineering advice.

Our Councillors are equally passionate about us working with the community to find a solution.

We know how much this jetty is loved by locals and visitors for fishing and enjoying the area and we appreciate your patience as we prioritise safety.

Please stay clear of the jetty and respect the closure. Unfortunately, it has reached the end of its useful life, and while we're exploring options for the future, it's unlikely to be useable anytime soon.

Annual inspections are completed by our Maintenance team on the Jetty. Independent engineering reports are also sought every two years assessing the overall structure above and below the water line. The last engineering report, which was just received has identified that deterioration has occurred at a faster rate than anticipated. The amount of work and cost to replace parts of the jetty that have completely failed warrant significant consideration before any action is taken.

Our Leadership team are reviewing all our options and will work with community members to consider needs and priorities. If you want to talk to them directly about the closure, they will be working from the Augusta Shire Office next Monday 24 March and would welcome the chance to answer questions and discuss options for the future.

We'll be speaking with the community again soon and will keep you updated as we progress.
