Festival of Our Age to Celebrate WA Seniors Week

Supporting Positive Ageing and Celebrating Older Community Members

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has launched a five-day event, “Festival of Our Age: Celebrating Positive Healthy Ageing”, in recognition of WA Seniors Week.

Running from 11 to 15 November 2024, the festival is an opportunity to support positive ageing and celebrate the incredible contribution that older people make to our community.

Shire of Augusta Margaret River Shire President Julia Meldrum said that the festival program was designed based on community feedback.

“From aquarobics to tai chi, swing dancing lessons, film screenings and an Expo, the program is jam packed with events for our older community members, their families and carers”, said Julia.

“Feedback from older members in our community indicated that they wanted to connect and socialise with others in an accessible and inclusive environment, and access information related to them.”

“We are committed to making Augusta Margaret River a great place to live by looking after our people and we’ve heard this feedback loud and clear. We want to make sure that our older community members feel as though they can age well and positively here in Augusta Margaret River.”

“This festival is a fantastic opportunity for people to do just that – connect with others, try something new and access important and relevant information,” said Julia.

Thank you to the community members who provided feedback about what they wanted, to help shape this event and to our stakeholders and community groups for their guidance with the planning and delivery of the festival.

The Shire is pleased to collaborate with Augusta CRC to provide events in Augusta, and with Arts Margaret River and Margaret River HEART who are generously supporting the film screening and Expo.
