Grab yourself a FREE DIY home energy and water audit kit

Have you ever wanted to do an at home energy and water audit kit yourself?

We have partnered with Switch Your Thinking to provide our community with energy and water audit kits for loan, which can be borrowed from the Margaret River Library and Augusta Library.

The kits will enable you to understand how effectively your home uses power and water, and to identify actions you can take to improve your home's efficiency.

In addition to the kits, Switch Your Thinking are running a series of energy efficiency workshops throughout 2025 which focus on a range of topics for households and businesses.

Your Chance to Win

By simply borrowing a kit or attending a workshop AND completing an online survey, you will have a chance to win one of more than 150 professional home energy audits (Residential Efficiency Scorecard assessment) or a NatHERS assessment (energy assessment for new homes). 20 prizes will be awarded each month from April to November 2025.

There are also two energy efficient appliances to be won. People who borrow an energy audit kit or attend a workshop will be contacted by Switch Your Thinking and invited to attend an online follow up session in November during which they will be asked to provide feedback about their experience. Only people who attend one of the online sessions will go into the draw for one of the energy efficient appliances. There will be two sessions for community members and two sessions for business participants. Switch Your Thinking will provide session details/registration links for these workshops later on in the year and the draws for the two appliances will take place in late November.

Have a business? There are also some business energy audits up for grabs. Simply attend a business energy efficiency workshop or carbon accounting training AND fill out the survey for your chance to win. The draw will take place in November.

About the DIY kits

Each energy audit kit includes:

• A thermal imaging camera to help you locate draughts around your home and gaps in insulation, for checking fridge seals, and measuring hot water temperature.
• A plug-in energy monitor for measuring energy consumption and the running costs of appliances.
• A basin flow measuring cup to determine the water flow rate of your taps
• A thermometer for measuring the temperature of rooms, fridges and freezers.
• An instructional manual which explains how to conduct a variety of tests, tips to reduce your energy and water use, instructions on how to use the equipment and safety information. Many kits will also contain information and resources specific to your local area.

To borrow one of the kits, simply come and see one of our friendly library staff at Margaret River or Augusta.

About the Workshops & Business Training

Switch Your Thinking are running a series of workshops covering topics for households including reducing energy use, solar panels, electric vehicles and planning for electrification, and for businesses including carbon accounting.
