The Shire assisted with logistics in both the lead-up to and during the event
Last week the Shire participated in Margaret River Wine Association's Community Revegetation Day.
The Shire was approached by the MRWA who wanted to work in coalition with Nature Conservation Margaret River Region to undertake some environmental volunteering to give back to the area in which they work.
After some consultation with the Shire, the Margaret River mouth was chosen as the location for the event due to the need for large-scale rehabilitation works in the coastal dunes.
Despite the terrible weather forecast, over 60 people volunteered their time for the event. Volunteers focused on weed removal, spreading brushing and planting to help control access, prevent trampling and vegetation loss, stabilise the dunes and improve biodiversity.
The day was made possible through the fundraising efforts of the MRWA as well as contributions from the Shire. Along with the financial contribution, the Shire also assisted in logistics both in the lead-up to and during the event.
