Music Festival Gives Back to Community Groups

Locals Volunteer at Music Festival for Their Clubs

Good Day Sunshine Music Festival, which took place at Margaret River’s Gloucester Park Oval on 7 December, saw 6,000 locals and visitors come together to enjoy music from headline acts Angus & Julia Stone, Boy & Bear and The Dreggs, alongside favourites Jordy Maxwell, Margaret River’s Paige Valentine, Kiera Jas, Kiki & Co and Cowaramup’s Olive Mae.

As well as delivering a stellar lineup and a sold out event, organisers Macro Music worked closely with local sports clubs including Margaret River Hockey Club, Margaret River Tennis Club and Augusta Margaret River Football and Netball Club (Hawks) to help deliver the large scale event – and those who got involved by assisting with parking, gate entry, ushering, clean ups and more – are now benefiting from over $11,000 in club donations. The Hawks independently raised an additional $5,000 through their stall, showcasing the community’s enthusiasm and support for local organisations getting involved.

Shire President Julia Meldrum praised the event’s collaborative spirit, noting how the festival benefited the entire community.

“Council gave the green light for this concert after a gap of over a decade since the last one,” Julia said.

“It’s really positive when events of this scale are able to tap into our amazing people, their unique knowledge and our fabulous community spirit and to give back by paying for their time to help undertake key tasks needed to deliver the event.

“It’s a great example of how the right events can have widespread impact and benefits – providing authentic experiences for residents and visitors, boosting the local economy and supporting local clubs as well.”

For the clubs, the festival was a much-needed opportunity to raise funds through volunteering efforts and to use this to strengthen their upcoming programs, improve their facilities or provide new equipment.

Macro Music CEO Ross Macpherson highlighted the important role that local clubs played in the success of the event.

“We were thrilled to bring this incredible line up to Margaret River, featuring both big-name acts and talented local musicians,” Ross said.

“What truly set this festival apart was the active involvement of the community.

“Each club had the opportunity to contribute in their own way, and the funds raised were donated directly back into their clubs, supporting their specific needs.”

The Shire is now asking community members and local businesses and groups to provide feedback on their experience of the event  to help inform the planning of future events. Surveys will remain open until 31 December. For more information please go to Good Day Sunshine Festival Survey.
