Andrea Selvey to become Shire's CEO
The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has announced Andrea Selvey will become its new CEO, following an extensive recruitment process.
Council resolved the appointment at a Special Council Meeting on Monday 29 April and Andrea will start in the role after her notice period is served.
Andrea is the current CEO of the Shire of Carnarvon and has spent the past 16 years working in a range of senior local government roles. She is a former CEO of the Shire of Cocos (Keeling) Islands and the Shire of Dowerin and spent 8 years as the Director of Creative Communities and Community Services for the City of Greater Geraldton. She began her local government career as a Library Clerk at the Town of Bassendean.
Shire President Julia Meldrum congratulated Andrea on her appointment and said she was confident Andrea would make a valuable contribution to the Shire.
“Andrea combines a strategic mindset with a strong community focus and has played a transformational role at the Shire of Carnarvon by working collaboratively to foster positive relationships with the community and State Government,” said Julia.
“She understands the complex dynamics of local government as well as the challenges facing our region, and reflects the values of our Shire – respect, integrity, community and excellence - which make her a great fit for the role and our community”.
Andrea said she was delighted to be appointed and was looking forward to leading the Shire of Augusta Margaret River into the future.
“It’s a privilege to be appointed as CEO of the Shire of Augusta Margaret River and I’m looking forward to serving the community and working together to develop and deliver key plans and initiatives for a healthy and sustainable future”.
Andrea was one of the five candidates shortlisted from the 116 applications received for the position. As part of the recruitment process Andrea was interviewed by a selection panel made-up of the Shire President, several councillors, and an independent consultant.
Temporary CEO Arthur Kyron will continue in the role until 31 May. Directors at the Shire will be acting CEO until Andrea takes up the role full-time.
