New Community Support Services Grant Now Open

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is pleased to announce that it’s new Community Support Services Grant is now open.

The grant is a fantastic opportunity for organisations that deliver direct social services, enhancing community wellbeing, capacity and resilience in the Augusta Margaret River community, to access financial support up to $20,000 (excluding GST) per year.

Shire President Julia Meldrum said that recent feedback from local community groups indicated that there is a gap in social services in the region.

“Unfortunately, many services that are funded to deliver to the Southwest are not necessarily reaching Augusta Margaret River and there is also limited funding sources available to support our vital grassroots not-for-profits in delivering place-based services”.

“With our recent State Government advocacy commitments for increased funding and accessibility to more social services in our region, we have been looking at other ways we, the Shire can support the sustainability of these vital services locally”.

“These grants have been developed in response to what we have been hearing in the community. They aim to bring more crucial support services to our Shire as well as build the capacity of our existing not-for-profits in responding to our community’s unique needs,” said Ms Meldrum.

The grant provides financial contributions to help sustain or expand services aimed at helping individuals cope with life challenges, improve their wellbeing and maintain or enhance their quality of life. Whether it’s offering emotional support, informational support (such as legal, advocacy services, healthcare and financial advice), practical assistance (such as transportation, housing and home maintenance), or tangible resources (including food, clothing or financial aid), the Community Support Services Grant is designed to empower organisations that make a real difference in the lives of residents.

Applications are now open for organisations that deliver essential social support services to the Augusta Margaret River community, and close at 4pm on Monday 17 February 2025.

Eligible organisations must deliver services that align with the Shire’s Community Strategic Plan 2040, Focus Area: People (page 28).
