Plan Your 2024 Art Safari
Follow a creative trail off the highways to visit artists in their studios on farms, in forests and vineyards at this year’s Margaret River Open Studios.

From painters to potters and printmakers, milliners to mosaicists, timber craftspeople to textile creators and illustrators to installation artists, the event boasts 144 incredible artists from Busselton to Augusta.

The 16-day event running between 7 to 22 September, showcases the diverse and vibrant arts scene in our region and gives art lovers the rare chance to meet artists and see their private art studios in shearing sheds, spare bedrooms, beach houses, sea containers, caravans and even a repurposed water tank.

If you’re looking for other options to add to your 2024 art safari, you can also check out the Margaret River art trails. Coinciding with the Open Studios, the Shire of Augusta Margaret River and Creative Corner have just launched an augmented reality (AR) experience at selected artworks on the Margaret River Art Trails in Margaret River, Cowaramup and Prevelly.

Smart phone users can scan QR codes along the trail to launch animations and 3D experiences on a range of artworks by artists such as Cara Sanders, Anita Revel, Brendon See and local group Artzability.

Margaret River Open Studios

With 30 new artists and 4 Aboriginal artists, this year’s event gives visitors an opportunity to discover new creators or return and see what has recently inspired their favourite artists.

Visitors can also complement their studio visits with immersive experiences with workshops and events such as Paint and Sip, build a birdhouse, learn the art of screen-printing, charcoal drawing and so much more.

Included in the incredible line up of artists is local artist Ian Daniell who recently completed a mural at the Margaret River Recreation Centre. The mural is a pod of eight life-sized adult bottlenose dolphins and two calves and was initiated to celebrate the new Margaret River Swim School. Make sure to check out Ian and some of the other 143 artists over the next two weeks!

The Shire is proud to support Open Studios through its Major Event Grants Program.
