Proposed Hamelin Bay Sand Mine - Have Your Say NOW!

Have Your Say before 25 October

The Shire has been asked to make a recommendation about the proposed “Extractive Industry” at 9730 (Lot 22) Caves Road, Hamelin Bay. As a community that values the environment, we understand this proposal is concerning.

In Western Australia, where a development is valued over $2million, a land-owner or developer can opt to have their proposal assessed by a Development Assessment Panel (DAP).  That is what has happened in this case, and it means we were only made aware of the proposal when we were notified by the DAP in late September.

We were initially asked to make a recommendation to the DAP by the 29 November, however DAP has granted us an extension to 13 December.  We will be using the limited time available to undertake as much consultation as possible so that our recommendation takes into account the desires and concerns of our community.  Ultimately however, the DAP is authorised to determine the proposal, and the Shire does not have the final say.

We encourage everyone who wants to have their voice heard to make a submission via our Your Say page by 25 October 2024. We will present our recommendation to Council at a public meeting (likely to be 11 December).
