World Town Planning Day holds extra special meaning this year as the Shire received two commendations at the Planning Institute’s State Awards for Planning Excellence on Friday night.
The awards were received for the Shire’s Local Planning Strategy 2036 and the Margaret River Precinct Community Plan (a collaboration with REALM Studios). The Shire’s Manager Planning and Regulatory Services Matt Cuthbert said a consistent theme across both projects is the extent to which community members have generously given their time and expertise to develop outcomes which are appropriate for the local context.
“The extent to which we can lead and innovate with the planning work that we do is totally dependent on the support we receive from the community. These awards confirm for us that together with our community we can achieve great things.”
Contributions from Traditional Owners were also vital in the success of both projects.
