Investing to Make our Shire a Great Place to Live
The 2024/25 budget is our plan for funding the services our community needs and investing in the facilities that make our shire a great place to live.
This year’s budget promises to deliver projects in every area of the shire which have been flagged by our community as important to them and the place they live.
These projects are in addition to funding of ongoing services such as the recreation centres, libraries and Nala Bardip Mia – Margaret River HEART, as well as the continued maintenance of roads, parks and reserves.
How our budget supports the environment
Protecting and enhancing our unique natural environment and the biodiversity of our region is important to everyone in our community and one of the Shire’s key focus areas.
We’ll continue our extensive on-ground environmental work and reserve management including weed mapping, erosion control and revegetation; and have allocated funds to support community groups undertaking important environmental programs.
To extend our on-ground commitment we’re also creating two new Natural Area Officer positions to assist with the maintenance and restoration of natural bushland, and safeguard our environment for future generations.
How our budget supports community groups
Our community is fortunate to have incredible community groups who play a valuable role improving the quality of life of our residents. Once again we’ve allocated funds to support those community groups whose work aligns with our priorities and will provide funding via our:
- Community organisation operational grants
- Community development grants
- Major events grants
For more information on grant funding opportunities please visit our grants page.
How our budget supports farmers
Farmers in our shire significantly contribute to the fabric of our community. They also face unique challenges. Over the next 12 months we’ll be making improvements to a number of rural roads, including Scott River Road, and we will also be developing an Agriculture Policy to further consider how we can support the sustainability of farming.
