Stage is set for Footy Oval Concert

Councillors Give Green-light for Gloucester Park Concert

Augusta Margaret River Shire Councillors have given the green-light for concerts to return to the Margaret River Footy Oval.

At last month’s Council meeting, Councillors unanimously gave their in-principle support to a proposed all-ages concert at Gloucester Park this summer.  

The Shire will now work with West Australian event organisers, Macro Music Pty Ltd, to progress plans and sign off on final permits and approvals for the concert. 

While the date and line up for the concert is yet to be confirmed, Shire President Julia Meldrum said she was excited about concerts making a comeback to Gloucester Park.

“ I have really fond memories of the Margaret River Master concerts at the footy oval in the early 2000s which were always great fun!” she said.

“We haven’t had a music event of that size in our Shire for 13 years and the proposal presents a fantastic opportunity to bring our community together and give our young people a chance to make some memories of their own,” she said.

The Shire President said Shire staff had already consulted with a range of external and internal stakeholders to identify solutions to any potential risks associated with the event. 

“Before presenting the proposal to Council, Shire Staff were diligent in their research to consider the impact of the event and how any potential risks could be mitigated. The stakeholders they consulted were all supportive of the event and before anything is locked in there will be further consultation to prepare permits, licenses and management plans.”

The Shire President said event organisers estimated 6,000 patrons may attend the concert, which is also expected to attract visitors which would benefit local businesses.

“Events are a key ingredient for a vibrant region - underpinning the quality of life for residents, providing authentic experiences for visitors and helping boost the economy,” she said. 

Macro Music has been producing and promoting outdoor music events catering for audiences between 2,000 and 8,000 people for more than 12 years. As well as their own festivals such as Out Of The Woods, Good Day Sunshine, Here Comes the Sun and Sugarloaf Rock, Macro Music have been hosting and delivering shows at Margaret River’s 3 Oceans Winery since 2011.

Since 2010, Macro Music have sold more than 200,000 tickets for events held across Australia and they pride themselves on building safe, inclusive and enjoyable events.
