About Greg

I live in Margaret River on a lovely bushy block that has Peppermint Brook running through it. My wife and I love the native flora and fauna that surrounds us. After a lifetime of holidaying from Perth to the South-West, I made the move to make Margaret River my home in 2019.

I am a lawyer who studied at the University of Western Australia completing a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and Bachelor of Laws.

My first job out of university was at a legal practice in country WA. I then worked in private practice in Perth, before moving to Legal Aid and spending 32 years there. Much of my work there was in regional offices, and my work took me all over the State, and also to the Commonwealth territories of Christmas Island and Cocos Islands. My main area of work became civil law, and I was eventually the Managing Solicitor of the Civil Division dealing with a large range of matters, including many compensation and human rights cases.

I have had previous experience in local government. I was first elected in 1998 as a councillor at the Town of Cottesloe. I didn’t seek re-election in 2001, but was re-elected in 2007 and 2011. Having been elected again in 2023, means I have been elected in four decades - the 90’s, the noughties, the teens and the twenties.

I have also involved myself in community affairs in many and various ways. I have been elected chairperson of a Residents and Ratepayers Association. I was on the inaugural committee of the Environmental Defenders Office (legal aid for the environment). I have been a long-term committee member of a Coastcare organisation. I am currently a member of Margaret River Nature Conservation, Environment Centre, Men’s Shed and the Community Centre.

I have always been an active sportsperson and am currently a member of the Margaret River Tennis Club, and an enthusiastic Parkrunner down at Rotary Park, Margaret River where you can usually find me on Saturday mornings.
